Maggie Lucas lived at 186 West Genessee Street in Auburn, NY. I looked up the address in Boyd's Auburn Directory for 1874 (this directory is available on the database Sabin Americana, in Gale Primary Sources). I could not find Maggie Lucas, but I did find that in 1874, two women who were listed as "domestics," and who may have been Black women, lived at that address. They were Ellen Nunan (p. 190) and Esther Nolan (p. 189). Also living at that address were Charles Fitch and Morrell Fitch. The Fitches were a wealthy white family in Auburn (Abijah Fitch was a wealthy white abolitionist who, earlier in the 19th century, sold many parcels of Auburn land at market prices to African Americans). What all this means is that Maggie Lucas may have been a domestic worker for the Fitch family. I may be able to come up with more leads. I wrote a book about 19th-century Auburn (Freeman's Challenge: The Murder that Shook America's Original Prison for Profit; U. Chicago Press), so I have a LOT of information about this city. I'm always happy to share my resources about Auburn.

Also: the Cayuga County Historian's Office in Auburn is a GREAT source of information. For a small fee, they can do research on individuals. Or you can come to the office and do research directly for free. I have no doubt that more information about Maggie Lucas and her family could be found here.  https://www.cayugacounty.us/234/County-Historians-Office
