See my post about Washington Magruder/McGruder. It's an old post & I will update it when I've done more digging.

Washington's age & mental infirmity in the ad are consistent with the story told by A.M. Ewell about his death. Virginia Waugh's maiden name was Magruder; she married James H Waugh in 1867. In 1870 she & James & their first child (Thaddeus) were living in Fauquier County, adjacent to Prince William County, where the white Ewells lived. James was a USCT soldier, a sergeant in Co. K, 1st USC Infantry. By 1880 the Waughs were in Washiungton, DC.

It is likely Virginia was Washington's daughter or granddaughter.

Going back to my post on Washington McGruder, I noted that the only woman in J.S. Magruder's inventory old enough to be Wash's mother was named Flora. Virginia (Magruder) Waugh had a daughter named Flora.
